According to Realtor Magazine, kitchens that are more open to other parts of the house have a greater chance of being liked by potential buyers.
That may come as no surprise, but other trends in kitchens that are high on the likeability scale include big windows, softer lighting and less cabinets.
To incorporate these and other popular items into your kitchen now, consider these tips:
- If you have the space, add an island. A trend toward less cabinets means homeowners have to get creative with storage space and an island can do just the trick. If you can add a few bar stools, you instantly have an inviting place for guests to relax while you prepare dinner.
- Buyers still want storage space so consider incorporating a stand-alone furniture piece, one that offers storage options and maybe even some display space.
- Switch out existing harsh lighting with more soft lighting, maybe a small lamp or sconces.
- Make it comfortable. Comfy chairs invite people to stay a while especially if there’s a plate of cookies and fresh-brewed coffee available. Though the furniture may not be sold with the home, it will at least give potential buyers an idea of how they can utilize the space.
